CCEF supports UPJ STEM Professions Day Trip!

On April 12, 2017, sixteen Central Cambria High School STEM students attended STEM Professions Day at University of Pittsburgh – Johnstown. The purpose of this event is to encourage more students to consider careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. The program featured up-to-date information about career paths in the STEM professions, diverse workshops conducted by UPJ’s renowned faculty, and student research projects. The students were able to choose to attend 3 different concurrent presentations that appealed to their individual interests. The students were guests for lunch on campus. It was a great experience for all students involved. The Central Cambria Education Foundation was proud to provide financial support for this event.

We’re giving away money like it’s going out of style! Our alumni coordinator, Curt Mellott, has been out and about presenting checks to fund educational enhancement projects around the district. Here are some recent photos of check presentations. Thank you to CCEF’s financial supporters for making this possible! Name the Auditorium Renovation Project!

The Central Cambria Education Foundation and the Central Cambria School District will be collaborating on a renovation project of the high school / middle school auditorium. We will have more details about the project in the near future, but right now we are looking for a catchy name for the project. If you would like to suggest a name, please comment on the post on our Facebook page at If your suggestion is chosen, we will put your name on the back of one of the new seats. Thanks!!

AP Spanish Goes to Carnegie Science Center

The Central Cambria AP Spanish class had a “dia de ciencias” (Science day) at Carnegie Science Center in February. The group of 18 seniors watched a presentation in Spanish about telescopes and did a scavenger hunt (instructions in Spanish) throughout the Science Center.

After the museum, the group headed to Mallorca, a Spanish restaurant in the South Side, where students had an opportunity to try paella (the national dish of Spain; see attached picture), garlic chicken and sangria.

According to the students, the best part of the day was the food. It was a great day spent using Spanish in a real-world environment. Thanks again to the Central Cambria Education Foundation for this experience! (Mrs. Templeton & AP Spanish students).
